> Do I just make a new wallet for each asset in ledger live and transfer each asset to those new wallets? Do I just make a new wallet for each asset in ledger live and transfer each asset to those new wallets?
No. A new wallet isn’t sufficient.
Let’s use a bit of common sense here: you have restored your wallet with your seed phrase. So whatever wallets you generate off of the seed phrase is accessible by knowing the seed phrase. The thief has your seed phrase too.
Anything that is tied to the compromised seed phrase is compromised. The only way to break this chain is to have something that the thief **doesn’t** have: a **new** seed phrase.
It’s not sufficient to merely move the funds to a „new“ address if it’s still on the same seed phrase.
> Will that work or will the thief just see those new wallet’s too if they do get access to my stolen Nano?
No, the situation you described won’t work for the reasons I mentioned above. Access to the stolen Nano isn’t your biggest concern here. It’s access to your seed phrase that should be your biggest concern.
Remember: you were able to restore your funds with the seed phrase and without your Nano. The thief can also restore your funds with the seed phrase and without your Nano. **You seem to be forgetting that every action that you’ve taken so far is duplicatable by the thief.**
If you do something that the thief can also physically replicate, what makes you think your lost coins will recognize you as its rightful owner?
> Can someone please give me detailed instructions on what to do please as I’m a bit lost.
Move the coins to a new seed phrase.
Type an incorrect PIN three times into your Ledger Nano device to wipe your device clean. Then generate a new seed phrase that **the thief has never seen before**. Write down this new seed phrase and make sure you write it down accurately. Connect your Ledger Nano device to Ledger Live and generate new receiving addresses from your new seed.
Now, we need to access the coins that are on the old, compromised seed.
There’s a few ways to do this:
* If you only own Ethereum and Ethereum-based coins, you can merely type your compromised seed phrase into MetaMask and use MetaMask to send the coins to your new address.
* If you own Bitcoin, you can type your compromised seed phrase into Electrum and use Electrum to send the coins to your new address.
* If you own Polkadot, you can type your compromised seed phrase into Talisman and use Talisman to send the coins to your new address.
* If you own a million different tokens on a million different networks, it might be easier to use your Ledger Nano device to access your funds. In this case, type an incorrect PIN three times into your Ledger Nano device to reset it again. After it’s been wiped clean, restore your wallet with your stolen seed phrase. Connect your Ledger Nano device to Ledger Live. Send all the coins to the new seed phrase. Then, type an incorrect PIN three times yet again and restore your wallet with the new seed phrase. All in all, I’d expect this process to take about 90 minutes to 2 hours.
Whichever option you use, you must ensure that the transactions are sent to the correct address. If you have a typo or malware that effects your destination address, you will lose all of your funds permanently. You may want to consider small test transactions, if you think that’s right for you.
You must also be sure that you complete these actions before the thief does; whoever is first to complete these actions becomes the rightful owner to these coins. If time is of the essence, you can first safeguard your funds by sending them to your accounts on centralized exchange ASAP. However, this will only work if this exchange supports your token on the network that you hold it on. For example, not all exchanges will support SHIB on Polygon.
Using a CEX will also mean there’s more withdrawal fees. CEX’s can charge whatever withdrawal fees they want, that are sometimes unrelated to the true network fees.
Whatever you do, always heed the following two rules below:
* Never type your seed phrase into Ledger Live. Ever.
* Never type an *uncompromised* seed phrase into your computer (such as a hot wallet like MetaMask). However, it is acceptable to type an already-compromised seed phrase into MetaMask as long as you’re sure you have downloaded the genuine version of MetaMask and you intend to move the coins off of your compromised seed phrase immediately.
