I have the X and S+, and I have the same passphrase on both devices. I simply use the 24-words wallets for transactions (like a chequing account), while the wallets on my 25th-word wallets are for HODL (like a saving account).

I keep my S+ with my desktop at home, and bring my X along with me; in case of a house fire and my engraved titanium plate melted together with my S+, hopefully I still have the X.

You need to understand that your cryptos are never stored in your ledger. They are always stored on the blockchains, on the Internet.

The only thing stored in your ledger is your seed (24 words + optional passphrase), i.e. your master private key that gives you full control of all the accounts derived from this seed.

To learn the basic concepts of crypto and how the ledger works, you should read and study all the pages here: [https://www.ledger.com/academy](https://www.ledger.com/academy) .

A ledger is just a small electronic gadget that stores your seed in a safe way (it cannot be extracted from the ledger), and that allows you to sign your transactions without risking to expose your seed. It can break or malfunction at any time, it is disposable and replaceable.

The safety of all your funds really depends on how safe you keep your seed (24 words + optional passphrase), backed-up in physical form (e.g. on paper) safe from unauthorized access and from accidental destruction / loss. Your seed is NOT replaceable! The value of your seed is the value of all your crypto assets. Protect it well!

Your SEED (24-word phrase + optional bip39 passphrase) is what you need to safeguard for long term storage. No need to keep a ledger device, as the only thing stored in the ledger is your seed, not your cryptos.

I would use the Nano X as a primary device, and keep the Nano S as a backup, in case the Nano X was broken/lost/stolen etc. So you dont have to wait for a replacement to be delivered. Then also keep the recovery seed somewhere very secure and offline.
