Danke!

Bad idea to share the amounts of crypto you are holding on social media. You target yourself for scammers.

      RIP your DM folder.
Don’t trust ANYTHING written in the messages you will receive.

use a DEX and you don’t have to kyc, but you would have to eventually if you wanted to withdraw to fiat

I think you should have your friend send you a much smaller amount to begin with and you try moving it around and doing things for a while to make sure you don’t accidentally lose 15k

Please do some proper research of how this stuff works when you are going to deal with such sums. You know in crypto you are 100% responsible for your own actions. One wrong click and you might lose it all.

To answer some of your questions:

When you first get your Ledger hardware device and initialize it, you are offered two options: generate a new wallet or restore an existing wallet from the recovery phrase (24 seed words). You will want to generate a new wallet, make absolutely sure you write down your seed words properly and keep them in a very secure place. Never ever save the seed digitally, don’t take a photo, don’t print it out, never type it into a computer or phone!

Then you install the Ledger Live app (make sure you download it from the official website, there are scam copycats). When you connect your Ledger hardware wallet to Ledger Live you can interact with your wallet, for example to send out crypto or to get your address to receive crypto.

Next you can click on “Accounts” and create an account for Ethereum.

USDT is an ERC20 token on the Ethereum blockchain. That means if you want to receive it, you need to give your friend your Ethereum address. In the Ledger Live app click on “Receive”, select Ethereum and it will show you your Ethereum address. Always double check when you copy and paste an address that it’s correct and complete. (There’s malware that replaces crypto address while you copy and paste it with their own address, trying to divert the crypto to them).

You can easily swap USDT for any other Ethereum token or Ethereum itself on a decentralized exchange such as Uniswap. You may need to install the Metamask extension for your browser, then connect your Ledger to Metamask and then you can swap your token on the Uniswap website. Important: such transactions cost “gas”, that means you will need to have a little bit of Ethereum if you want to swap your USDT for any other token or send it to another address.

If you want to exchange it for Bitcoin, other coins or USD, you will need to create an account in a centralized exchange such as Coinbase, Binance or Kraken. Then you send your crypto from the hardware wallet to your account on the crypto exchange and there you can trade it for anything else.

Ledger Live also offers an option for swapping crypto directly in the app but the fees are very steep, I wouldn’t use it.

Also remember that every transaction (incl. converting one crypto to another) is a taxable event in most countries. Keep a proper record of every single transaction (there’s software that can help such as cointracking.ino)

You can try no KYC exchanges like sideshift.ai. I think it has a pretty good reputations. You’ll lose a bit on conversion for sure, but shouldn’t be that much, especially if you are trying to avoid KYC

I hope your friend is not a person that sent you a private message on reddit….. These are scammers and won’t gift you money.
