This is not an actual „Shamir“, but a simplified Shamir. However, if this is the case, I would actually move all the funds to a new wallet and generate the new seed, and split the same way.

Consider it compromised, but it’s not urgent. If someone finds the lost set, they still have to gain access to one of the others, in the mean time you will have a problem if you lose another set unless you recreate the lost set.

My approach would be to either create a new key entirely or a 25th key in the current one and transfer all your funds.

I too have a similar Shamir code in three sets of steel dog tags. I have a small amount of crypto in that account, but most of my crypto on a 25th pass phrase protected wallet. I memorised my pass phrase and included it as a memorandum to my securely stored will.

Bruteforcing is still extremely infeasible even for someone who has found the fragment. You shouldn’t worry about losing funds to a brute force attack.

However, you’re now the loss of one more fragment away from no longer having your full seed. What you can do is recreate the lost fragment from the two remaining fragments. Since you’re not actually using Shamir’s Secret Sharing algorithm, you don’t need the aid of a computer to do any math.

Note that if you suspect that the lost fragment might have been taken by someone you know, then you should probably recreate a completely fresh seed and storage setup. Because while you’re still very much protected against brute force attacks from a stranger, a targeted attack is much more dangerous right now.

Put it in one phrase. Make a copy and bury it either underground and write down the location, or in a bank deposit box locked in another box then give access to that to your next of kin or whoever.

Then keep a paper copy hidden for yourself and just stop over complicating it.

I’d do option 2 for the peace of mind.

you still have your 24-word seed, and if the steel backup could have been found by someone, there is no way they could bruteforce the missing 7 or 8 words with today’s computing power. I says 7 or 8 in case the missing backup was the last words, which includes a checksum (hence 80 bits instead of 88 bits, so about 7 .1 words).

Make sure the same person who stole your plate is not able to access your other plates.
