Wie und warum werden Nanos für FIDO verwendet?

I’ve been using the nano s and nano x for FIDO for a few years now. It only currently supports FIDO U2F but ledger is apparently making a FIDO 2 application. The advantages are that it generates the FIDO credentials from the seed phrase automatically. Which means you can restore access with another device should the previous one die, get lost etc…. A risk with them would be that different companies have slightly different implementations of FIDO on their sites specifically the counter associated with the protocol. Not sure why they don’t advertise it more but the main point of the nano is that its primary goal is to be a crypto wallet generator. In reality I’d say it’s more like a smartphone for all things requiring cryptographic secrets. It can act as a gpg smart card as well if you’re into that sort of thing

From where do you set it up?

I keep my FIDO and hardware wallet separate. I treat both vastly differently from a security point, thus the separation.

Use Yuubikey as daily driver and set/enroll Ledger as backup.

I like the idea of increased utility. A simple device like ledger stax or nano x used to verify not just crypto transactions but your [digital] identity makes a lot of sense and removes the need for additional devices like multiple yubikeys as it’s backed up via your seed phrase. I just use it as an additional security key for gmail right now but hopefully there will be support for most online services in the future.
