You can sanitize the firmware by doing a wipe event from the bootloader (technical, requires TrezorCTL). But sanitizing the hardware may be a bit more difficult. It is VERY difficult to create tampered HW that the stock FW will run on, so sanitizing FW is likely far enough. But if your hyper-paranoid, all I can recommend is:

      1. [Inspect the HW](https://wiki.trezor.io/Security:Hardware)
      2. Weigh the HW to see if it matches specifications
      3. Measure the HW to see if it matches specifications

You can also test feature additions in FW and ensure that the HW reacts properly. Load the OLDEST FW possible, then slowly flash newer and newer editions while testing that the new op_codes are only in the new FW.

You can also load a test seed and compare it to a BIP39 software wallet like on Ian’s site. But all of this is just theater. Very unlikely you have a super-stealth HW hacked Trezor from Amazon. If you just read the manual cover-to-cover and follow those recommendations, you’ll be fine.

      Good luck.

Hardware wallets is something I’d avoid buying elsewhere but on original manufacturer’s website.
Or at least following buy links from original website.
I’m ok overpaying and maybe overwaiting but will have a peace of mind for years to come.

Thank you all for your helpful answers. I was finally able to verify that the amazon store I bought the wallet from is the official store of Trezor. It is listed in their home page link [here](https://wiki.trezor.io/FAQ:Ordering_and_shipping).

But I do feel that they should have something in their suite that can verify the authenticity of the device and the software it is running. Ledger has a feature that verifies the authenticity of the device.

Hi, there are important security measurements that can assure you your device is safe to use:
      1. All Trezor devices are distributed without a firmware software, so you need to install it for your first use. If there is a firmware installed already, then that means that someone used this device before you.

      2. The bootloader verifies the firmware signature each time you connect your Trezor to a computer. You can connect to Trezor Wallet only if the firmware is correctly signed by SatoshiLabs. If there was an unofficial firmware installed, your device would flash a warning sign on its screen upon connecting it to a computer.

      3. Because the recovery seed is generated by you during the Trezor setup, you can be sure you are the first and only owner of your private keys.

      1. Generate a seed.
      1. Enter the seed into https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ and verify the addresses are the same as on your Trezor.
      1. Wipe the Trezor and generate a new seed for you to use.
