>I updated my Trezor last week and was prompted to create a passphrase.

This feature is not new, but it might be that the update changed the default settings or something.

>I wasn’t paying enough attention and assumed that any passphrase I set would be device specific and that I would be safe for certain with my seed phrase.

No, that would be your PIN. The passphrase is more like a part of your seed.

>Does that mean it’s conceivable I could brute force it if the passphrase I selected was not too complicated?

Yes.

>How can a „25th‘ seed word be added to an existing wallet? I never moved any funds.

It can not. If you didn’t send any funds to the hidden wallet produced by your passphrase then it will be empty and you haven’t lost anything. **The funds in your standard (non-passphrase) wallet are still available if you just enter an empty passphrase or turn the passphrase setting back off.**

>Lastly, what will happen if I keep guessing passphrases? will I get locked out?

No, you can guess as much as you want. If you didn’t send any funds then every passphrase will lead to an empty wallet though, so you couldn’t really know what the original passphrase you used was (not that it would even matter in that case).
