You can have many different passphrases, though, you can only have one on the device at a time. Setting one as „permanent“ just means that it will stay on the device until you wipe the device or replace it with another passphrase. This means that there isn’t really a risk in putting in a „permanent“ pass phrase because if you get it wrong you can just enter in the correct one to push out the incorrect one.
The temporary pass phrase allows you to access a pass phrase that will be wiped from the device when it goes to sleep. This is usually helpful if you have multiple passphrases, but don’t want to get rid of your main one when trying to access funds on a secondary passphrase.
