      Grüße an alle.

Keine Hilfe so weit hier.

Dang. You’re gonna have to just take the risk and update and hope it doesn’t reset your device. Moving forward tho back up your seed phrase as even reading this gave me anxiety ahah

Hold up. Are you saying that the device never prompted you to write down any words and was good to go out of the box? If so it may have been tampered with.

Sorry but seriously how tf are people so moronic as to lose their seed phrase and NOT immediately move their funds to a hot wallet and generate a new seed. Jesus christ.

Looks like you have a ledger with an old firmware. Ledger with old firmware do not work well with Ledger Live and several other apps that connect to the ledger.

If you still have your seed (24 words), then you have three options:

A – Safest option: Keep your old ledger untouched and don’t try to update its firmware yet. Get a new ledger device, enter your seed (24 words), and check that you can recover access to all your accounts using ledger Live or other wallets that can connect to the ledger (there are many!).

      – If yes, then you can proceed to update the firmware on your old ledger, and you could use it as a backup by keeping the same seed in both ledgers.

      – If no, then your old ledger could be used to recover access to your cryptos (provided that you have its PIN), using various methods that depend on the type of cryptos.

B – More risky option: update the firmware of your old ledger. This could cause it to reset, brick, and wipe its seed (it „should not“ according to Ledger cie, but it sometimes does). If this happens, re-enter your seed phrase in the ledger after the update, and you should be able to access all your old accounts. However, if for some reason your seed is incorrect, or does not match the seed that was in your ledger before the update, this would cause you to permanently lose access to all your crypto. If you have large amounts of cryptos, maybe consider option A, which is safer.

C – Recover all your assets using the device as-is, using various techniques and tools that depend on the type of cryptos (e.g. for BTC, you can use Electrum, etc). The process can be convoluted and time consuming. Then, once all your cryptos have been moved to accounts unrelated to your ledger (e.g. moved to exchanges), update your firmware, see option B.

If your Ledger is too old to have its firmware updated, your only options are A or C.

If you lost your seed (24 words), your only option is option C.

If you have BTC, they are easy to recover:

All BTC accounts created with ledger devices with Bitcoin app version 1.0.2 and later can be recovered using Electrum, connected to the ledger device (even if your ledger firmware is out of date).

On win 10/11, you may have to run Electrum in admin mode (right-click the Electrum icon, then select Run as administrator). Also make sure to close Ledger Live.

Make sure your ledger device is connected, unlocked, and in the Bitcoin app (make sure that „Browser Support is OFF in the Bitcoin app settings). In Electrum, follow: new account > standard account > use hardware device > select your ledger > select „legacy“, then Next.

This will go to legacy account #0, i.e. derivation path m/44’/0’/0′

If your account is segwit (addresses start with „3“) or native segwit type (addresses start with „bc1q“), select „p2sh-segwit“ or „native segwit“ instead of „legacy“.

If you have multiple BTC legacy accounts (or if your account is not account #0), you can reach your other accounts by changing the derivation path to m/44’/0’/n‘ (where n is the account number). E.g. to reach account #1, use m/44’/0’/1′ . The account number is the 3rd number in the derivation path (this is also true with p2sh-segwit and native segwit accounts)

Hey, thank you for reaching out and sorry to hear about this situation.

First of all can you let us know what cryptos you have stored, this way in case the below do not work, we can try to see if there is a 3rd party app wallet in which we can use to be able to manage your funds!

All what you mentioned is correct regarding what should be done, however for the recovery phrase its really on you to protect your own 24 words that are generated by the device as we do not have any information at all regarding our users.

You can try installing Ledger Live from our official site https://www.ledger.com/ledger-live/download

Then connect your device via USB, you will be prompted to choose from 3 options (choose to connect your device as it is already setup), if you receive connection issues, please refer to this site to troubleshoot based on your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux) https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005165269-Fix-USB-connection-issues-with-Ledger-Live?support=true

After that, you can check for app updates in Manager, or install apps and add accounts

Also, head to settings > help > clear cache

Hopefully this shows your accounts, however this is not guaranteed at all.

The 24-word recovery phrase is only displayed once during the setup process. You are the only one to have ever seen them, and it cannot be displayed anymore. Anyone with access to your 24-word recovery phrase can take ownership of your assets, as informed in this article. https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404382075537-Don-t-have-your-Recovery-phrase-?support=true

I hope this solves your issue

I remain available shall you have any further questions.

      Warm regards,
