No, the Trezor one does not have a keyboard. Typing it into the computer (or whatever you have it connect to) is the only option.

With the Trezor T, you have the option of using either the computer or the keyboard of the Trezor device.

This is not a huge security issue, as you are never required to type the seed phrase of the Trezor one into the computer. Without the seed phrase, the passphrase alone cannot be used to access your accounts.

Passphrase is just an extra sauce to your seed. I like to think of it as an “seed key”, if your seed get compromised, your funds would still be safe due the missing “key” (unless you save everything at the same place, obviously). The point is that one doesn’t work without the other, so there is no risk in typing your passphrase because the seed is never exposed.

I think your point is a smart one OP. Looks like it’s a flaw in the Model One that has no solution.

Hi, as it’s stated in the Wiki article about Passphrase feature, Trezor One only offers the option to enter the passphrase using the web browser.

However, even if there was a keylogger installed on your computer and someone was able to copy your passphrase, it would still be useless to them as without access to your recovery seed they wouldn’t be able to get to your wallet.

If you don’t feel comfortable with typing passphrase in a browser, get yourself a Trezor Model T that allows you to type in all the sensitive details directly on its screen.

I do wish Trezor would provide an update to allow Trezor One to enter in passphrase similar to the advanced recovery.

      I don’t want a Trezor Model T. I don’t want the touch screen.

      > I got the Trezor one because I was planning to wipe it after set up (and securely storing the seed)

Wiping seems like a waste of money. There are other ways you can generate a seed instead of buying a hardware wallet just to do it.

      > typing the seed anywhere on a computer is a big taboo

Think you flipped a word here. I suspect you meant „passphrase“ not „seed“.

For Trezor-1, the seed can be obscured from a keylogger using the „advanced recovery“ option. The passphrase still needs to be entered on the host computer, but does not require a web-browser. There are way to obscure the passphrase a bit using things like GPG and TrezorCTL. Other apps like Electrum offer scrambled keyboards for passphrase entry. But this may be beyond what you plan on doing… IDK.

I agree, it would be nice for Trezor to offer the same scramble-pad they used for seed entry for passphrases. I realize the character set for passphrases is larger, but seams like there should still be a way.

For the Trezor One I think they should allow the following option: if you don’t like entering the passphrase online (you shouldn’t), use a *number* as an option which is then entered the same way the PIN is entered (scrambled digits).
