Betrüger: bitte keine Nachrichten an mich!

Stamping leaves a deeper impression thus more layers must be removed to be illegible.

Handheld engravers typically cannot get the depths that stamping can provide.

Ideal would be laser engravers or cnc machining to get a deep engraving but that would risk exposing your seed to a third party or machine with saved data.

I wrote some words down on paper a decade ago and it still looks the same.

I used Crypto-Keys (https://crypto-keys.com/). Comes with 12 pieces of metal on a ring and a set of metal stamps. All you need is a hammer and a solid surface to stamp them on, and no one else needs to be involved and see your words. There are other similar products designed for this purpose that would also work, this is just the one I went with.

Stamping gets a lot deeper than engraving and should be more reliable.

I went with metal etching over stamping. I can’t speak to stamping since I’ve never used it but I’m very happy with the results I got from etching. Write slowly and don’t have to press very hard. After which the metal plates just sit in my safe in case I ever need them again. I bought [this one](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098LCBRJM) from amazon. 10/10

Here is the stamped seed backup I created that you can make.

I first used an engraver when I decided it was time to transfer my seeds to metal plates. It was a steep learning curve, even with past use of engravers. A good tip for the engraver and good penmanship helps with engraving. But do a few tests on similar metal before going full bore into new plates. I was never happy with my plates so decided to grind down my plates and use punches.

The punches out there that you’d normally buy are so so but if you want good punches that have good markings. You’ll pay more than $10 for them and not at harbor freight lol. I had a set that I’ve had for years with nice deep lettering that I had to cut down. At first they were doing great but swinging a 5pd hammer over 600 times is tiring. A regular claw hammer isn’t heavy enough. Maybe if it was a cheap softer steel but you’ll want titanium or similar plates. I cut down my punches so I could fit them in my vice and I pressed in each letter. It took a few hours to get them perfect but they look great. One day if I’m bored ill fill in the letters with epoxy or paint them lol.

Just take your time with whatever you decide to do.

Also note that, if you want to do the metal stamping at lower cost, you need only 10 stamping bits, since you can stamp the position of the word in the word list, rather than the actual word letters.
