      Hallo zusammen,

      – Do a test transaction first

      – double check your seed is working and you didn’t write something wrong

I was nervous and scared my first time too. But I was more concerned keep in it on the exchange. Double-check address and all will be good. Make sure eth goes to eth address and BTC goes to BTC address. I did a small amount until I felt comfortable

Some level of concern never goes away, but you eventually figure it out. Whitelisting addresses on Coinbase is a good idea, so you can never re-enter a bad address. Learn about some functions of each wallet, such as alias wallets for BTC (not sure what they’re actually called).

      You’ll do fine, little buddy.

I was shitting it setting up my ledger for the first time, also sending from Coinbase to Ledger was a massive anxiety, I did a small amount first and then all my crypto, all worked fine and it’s still in there so the Nano is doing it’s job. I would like to buy more crypto in the future but hearing a lot of horror stories with Coinbase closing peoples accounts with no warning, I don’t want my funds stuck in Coinbase.

It’s the first leap. Totally get it. You’re about to take away the training wheels called banks and regulation and can be totally terrifying since YOU control everything.

But once things settle down in your mind, you might become like me where your mind everything just feels liberated when it comes to financial transactions.

If funds ever leave Coinbase they ain’t gonna do shit about it. It’s more likely to be taken from exchange rather then self custody wallet so no worries.

      Words of advice.

      1. Take a deep breath.
      2. Before you send the entirety of ANY balance over, do a TEST transaction.
      3. TAKE YOUR TIME
      4. Verify the address ON SCREEN and also in LEDGER.

You will be okay, most of us were here once and we made it through ok.

      GODSPEED

Also yes it’s scary at first but once it’s done it’s such a nice feeling knowing ur assets can’t be taken with out your manual verification on ur ledger. Just never ever share ur seed phase or put it into any website ever. Fake customer service scams are real.

When setting up a Ledger you should do the following:

1: watch ledger video of genuine packaging to confirm you packaging items are the same (remember ledger recently rebranded their image, so the (old) ledger official videos are a bit different from a new ledger today, but you always receive the same items in the same order in your packaging when unboxing it)

2: when first setting up take notice if it doesn’t come already with a seed phrase on a card or a pin code in ledger itself on first screen (if so, it’s been already compromised, you must notify ledger and send it back to receive a new device)

3: if the above is cleared, then proceed with a new seed phrase and write it down, DOUBLE CHECK your writing! If it’s a Nano X device, get the ledger live app from the official source and follow the app and device steps

4: after all setting up process is complete and ledger live app says your device is genuine (assuming it’s a Nano X device, because S models genuine confirmation are through other methods), do a small test transaction (ALWAYS confirm address in the app and on ledger device screen, e.g.: if first 8 and last 8 digits match and ledger device confirms the match, then it is good to go)

5: after that above test transaction comes through, reset your ledger and try to recover it with your written down seed phrase, to see if you actually can recover your funds if something happens to that device (THIS IS A MUST DO, NOT an option)!!!!! If you didn’t do this, I advise you to send everything back to your Coinbase account (doing a test transaction first (ALWAYS test transaction first when sending funds), and redo everything following this guide)

6: if you were able to recover your wallets with your written down seed phrase and you can actually see the test transaction funds amount sitting there, then so far you did everything right, and it’s time to do again a test transaction first before sending all your funds to your cold wallets

7: and I can’t stress this enough, NEVER EVER FUCKING EVER insert your seed phrase, anywhere! Not even in your ledger device itself again, the only time you should grab your written down seed phrase to use it again is if you need to recover your wallets in the case you reset your device or buy a new one, all other options are going to be a scam!!!!!!!! Do you understand this? If not, don’t use an hardware cold wallet, cuz your funds are going to be safer in a big CEX (centralized exchange).

8: congratulations, you did everything fine so far, just don’t mess up 7th step or lose your written down seed phrase!…

BONUS step: (only when you are a very, very, experienced crypto user) there are “manual” encrypt methods to never be worried again with your seed phrase being discovered in real life, like if you encrypt it shuffling down 24 papers with numbers from 1 to 24, and writing down your seed phrase in that shuffled order. Your shuffled seed phrase will be encrypted and that numbers order list will be the decrypt code, so write down that numbers order list and never lose it. If you do a completely random shuffle order you can even write down that seed phrase online, like here in this sub, and no one will be able to decrypt it, at the moment there’s no computer power able to decrypt such entropy.
If you ever try this, after you do it, reset your device and try to recover your wallets using the decryption method to test if you can actually recover a small amount first before sending all your funds!!

Welcome to the financial freedom, young Padawan, and good luck!

Check if you have all the apps you need installed on the ledger.

Ledger Live with the newest updates, also the apps updated on the Ledger itself.

Make a test transaction to your ledger wallets.

Always check your wallet adresses to where you send your assets.

      Everything will be fine!

Best success and NEVER share your seed phrase with no one and don’t store it digital.

Don’t answer DM from here or somewhere else!

Yes, first of all make sure you have correct seeds, using and install recovery app in ledger device/app to validate the correct seeds, second, make a small test transaction before transferring huge amount, make sure you copy/paste the correct wallet address on each transaction.

      Warning:

-Don’t enter your seed into anything except the Ledger device itself.

-Download / update ledger live software from official website only.

-Never use search engine to access ledger website.

-Ignore all messages in your inbox and mark them as spam.

-Never click links or install software from an e-mail.

-Never respond to someone request to download remote applications(Team viewer, anydesk and etc.)

-Always conduct a small amount test while sending or receiving your funds and verify that the correct wallet address was copied/pasted into address bracket.

-Verify your ledger live is authentic:

If you don’t trust crypto and think the funds will not send or get lost then why buy it? That would mean crypto is useless

No matter what do a test run every time unless gas fees are an issue. When we are talking large amounts of money break into as many transactions as you need to. Once, I transferred like 20k, I did it in 2,500 each AFTER My initial test with $100 worth. Like Big Daddy Kane said „ain’t no half stepping“ not with my bread!!

I did this (Coinbase to Ledger). Did a test transaction first before sending everything.

It was super scary and I was sweating the whole time. But after several minutes, the transaction was through, and I’ve felt great since.

Owning your own keys is the best way to hold crypto. Never look back.

What I do, is open the new ledger, get like the 3rd seed phrase and write it down on a paper, then I transfer like 1 dólar of whatever coin, then I restore to fabric the ledger and try to open the wallet, if it works, now you have a seed phrase to use. And you will peacefully knowing that you can access to that wallet

Nano asks you to re-enter your seed phrase in non chronological order to make sure you have it right.. trust me I was nervous as well the first time. But like you said and did right you’re fine.
