Your coins are not „in“ the Ledger, you could lose or destroy it and get a new one every week, should not affect the security your coins one iota.

Ledger only signs your PC / phone transactions. A transaction is initiated on your computer or phone, but must be confirmed and signed on the hardware wallet before it can be sent. The hardware wallet is a digital safe for your private key, to keep your private keys off the computer or phone, so hackers cannot steal your coins.

No value is stored on the device, all your coins are on the blockchain, basically stored in your private master key and 24 word secret mnemonic „Seed Recovery Phrase“

The SRP derived the master extended private key aka BIP32 root key, from which all of your other keys can be generated. This SRP (keys) are similar to a long passphrase, needs to be kept secret and secure elsewhere OFFLINE, on paper or metal.

All hardware should be treated as a consumable, can disappear no problem. It exists only to give you convenient secure ACCESS.

In fact every noob should regularly practice resetting their wallet clients and re-importing from seed.

The ledger is not where your crypto is stored, it is directly on the native block chain. The ledger allows you to interact with your assets via the apps installed on the device.

As far as I know as long as the asset is supported you can recover them with another ledger, different hardware wallet ( Trezor) or even a hot wallet.

Your crypto assets are not stored inside the Ledger device nor the Ledger Live application. Rather, they are stored on the blockchain. Your Ledger hardware wallet just holds the private keys that provide access to your funds on the blockchain.

Your 24 words recovery phrase would be used to regain access to your cryptocurrencies if Ledger would ever cease to exist. You can restore your entire balance on any BIP compatible hardware or software wallet.

These 24 words are what provides you the ownership of your coins. You must never reveal them and never lose them.
