Once you set up the wallet, you can perform a „dry run“ recovery to verify your seed works. You don’t need to send any money to do this.

Hi, you can choose a different than pre-determined seed length using the [trezorctl commands](https://wiki.trezor.io/Using_trezorctl_commands_with_Trezor). However, please note that the commands are for advanced users.
It is not possible to choose a different seed length during the Trezor setup in Trezor Suite.

To your question about the device authenticity, first you should pay attention to the packaging – the package should be wrapped in a foil and Trezor One’s packaging should be also sealed with a [holographic seal](https://wiki.trezor.io/Holographic_seal), while Trezor Model T has the seal placed over its USB connector.
Then there are also another and more important security measurements:
      1. You should be the one who installs the firmware, as Trezors are shipped without any pre-installed firmware.
      2. If there was an unknown firmware installed, Trezor would flash a warning every time you’d connect it to a computer. Only a firmware signed by SatoshiLabs allows your device interact with our Trezor Suite app.
      3. You are also the one who creates a new wallet during which you write down the seed, therefore you can be sure you’re the only owner of the private keys.

The human mind is falible. Don’t store your seed words in your mind (unless you *really* have to). What if you forget? What if something happens to you? How will friends/family get access to seed when you’re in the ICU?
