Soweit ich weiß, werden die Ledger Nano S/X auf die Werkseinstellungen zurückgesetzt, wenn jemand dreimal eine falsche PIN eingegeben hat.

Könnte jemand klären, ob eine falsche PIN dreimal hintereinander eingegeben werden muss, oder ob das Gerät zurückgesetzt wird, wenn zu irgendeinem Zeitpunkt in der Geschichte des Geräts insgesamt dreimal eine falsche PIN eingegeben wurde?

Ich gehe davon aus, dass eine falsche PIN dreimal **nacheinander** eingegeben werden muss, aber ich möchte das nicht selbst herausfinden, indem ich es ausprobiere, haha.

You are correct in your assumption. 3 consecutive times entering the pin.

So if you try a pin, it doesn’t work, and you unplug the ledger, then plug it back in and try another pin you effectively have an infinite number of attempts?!

3 consicutive wrong pin will erase the device.

If you have a second pin to access a passphrased seed there is a separate counter that resets itself only after a valid pin2 entry.

This is to prevent a pin2 brute force when the attacker knows pin1

Hello, Thanks for reaching out. Well, there is a limit: after entering an incorrect PIN code three times, the device will reset itself. Unpowering a Ledger device wouldn’t reset this counter either. So after three incorrect PIN attempts consecutively so your Ledger device will reset to factory settings.
