Before addressing the actual question, some meta-advice. Recovering your trezor with your metamask seed phrase is a bad idea. You should let the hardware wallet pick a seed and never ever enter that seed phrase on a computer. Once a seed phrase is on a computer (and metamask seed phrases start out that way), the hardware wallet can’t help protect it from malware.

Based on the steps you described, what you should now see in metamask is:

      1. A brand new empty account (which metamask makes when setting it up)
      2. An account called „Trezor 1“, which, since it is based on your metamask’s seed phrase, used to be your first account.

There are 3 seed phrases involved here:

      1. The original metamask seed, which is now stored on the trezor
      2. The original trezor seed, which only exists in your backups at this point
      3. the new metamask seed, which, again, it generated when you set it up again.

So, what happened to the old „Trezor 1“ account? That account was based on your trezor’s seed phrase from before you reset it (#2 in the above list).

Do you still know that seed? If so, yay, reset your trezor, recover that seed, and you can access that account through metamask again. If not, then, well, sorry, but that account is gone forever. Trezors make it hard to skip writing down the seed when setting it up. Stories like this one is why.

„I wanted to secure both accounts with my trezor“. Doesn’t that mean you made two new hardware accounts within Metamask? You can’t transform old into new as far as I know. You import a hardware and make a new hardware acc within your metamask and transfer your funds. So a bit confused

There are lots of resets and reinstalls in this situation.

Trezor holds one seed-mnemonic and only one seed-mnemonic. If you wipe that seed-mnemonic and install a different one, you can no longer access the one that was wiped, because it was… well… wiped.

Metamask can hold many seeds, both private and public. But once you remove your metamask install you may lose any seed it was set up with.

In the future always write down all seeds that you use in all wallets both hardware and software and keep the paper forever.

      Sorry for your loss.

Hi, if you imported your Metamask seed to Trezor, you actually broke a purpose of your hardware device, as you are using a seed generated by a hot wallet there.

Check our recent post in which we explain why this is not a recommended practice:

Import of a hot wallet seed to Trezor
      byu/kaacaSL inTREZOR

Metamask will always have the hot wallet account that you cannot protect with Trezor.
You can only access MM with Trezor and have a hardware-protected account there.
This is how to connect to MM:

MM can only have one native account. The other one you would have imported. Two different seed phrases are involved here.

If I have my seed phrase for my metamask that I have now secured through trezor from initialization. Can I safely reset my trezor again but this time with my original trezor seed phrase to look for my account ?
