There are so many things that can go wrong with Ledger Recover (not that I would EVER use it, and I am not going to update my firmware, and I will be moving to Trezor or Keepkey soon).
1: Someone intercepts the shards with malware installed on the custodians‘ side (not on your own computer or Ledger). They can then reconstruct your key remotely.
2: Some error occurs which recreates a different seed to the one you tried to „back up“, so you end up with a different wallet, and your original wallet disappears into the universe.
3: You get tricked into installing a fake „Ledger Recover“ app somehow which then sends the shards to someone else.
I’m no programmer, so I don’t know how possible these things are, but this whole thing is opening up a can of worms. I was a long-time fanboy of Ledger, but I’ve lost trust in them now.
