Thankfully, the 24 word recovery phrase (aka the private key) cannot be transmitted via the USB. There is no need to worry about this u/Financial_Cry1836.
Importantly, you’ll always want to make sure you ***never*** share the 24 word recovery phrase with any form of software. There are fake phishing scams out there that will ask for it and that’s how you know they’re scams – Ledger Live will **NEVER** ask users for their 24 word recovery phrase.
Ideally, you should only ever write it down and secure it in a safe place (preferably on metal to make it fire/flood-proof) at the time that you generate the 24 word recovery phrase using the physical Ledger device.
Ultimately, as long as your 24 word recovery phrase is kept safe and never shared with anyone or any sort of digital application, your funds are absolutely safe as well.
I also wanted to include this for reference – [here](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360005514233-How-to-keep-your-24-word-recovery-phrase-and-PIN-code-safe-?docs=true) is some great documentation on how to enhance your security setup and keep your 24 word recovery phrase (and PIN code) safe.
