Hallo. Eine kurze Frage an jemanden, der von Ledger umgestiegen ist und neu im Trezor-System ist.

Soweit ich weiß, ist eine Passphrase nützlich, denn wenn jemand Zugriff auf das physische Gerät erhält, benötigt er die Passphrase, um auf die versteckte Wallet zuzugreifen. Eine Passphrase ist auf einem Trezor-Gerät nützlich, weil es keinen sicheren Chip wie Ledger hat. Selbst wenn also jemand Zugriff auf das physische Gerät hat, kann er ohne die PIN oder den Seed nicht auf die Münzen zugreifen.

Wenn ich mich jedoch dafür entscheide, keine Passphrase und keine versteckte Wallet zu verwenden (und stattdessen eine Standard-Wallet zu benutzen), dann sind meine Münzen sicher, solange niemand jemals physischen Zugang zu meinem Trezor One-Gerät erhält.

A passphrase is useful for any wallet, not just a trezor, as the extraction of the seed from a ledger has shown.

It adds a very simple additional security layer to a wallet, so that even or when a seed or wallet would be compromised, it would require still a passphrase yp access it.

Heck, you might not even know until it is too late, when your wallet would be emptied. The passphrase would prevent that and at least slow being compromised down (assuming you would know if someone acquired access to your seed or hardware wallet), especially when using a complex passphrase.

The only reason to delay implementing it, is the costs of the fees of sending funds from the normal wallet to the new hidden wallet. Nothing else…

The passphrase on a seed is essentially a whole new seed. All new wallet addresses are created. The only thing is that the seed with the passphrase is hidden below the standard seed. It can’t be seen. So if you have coins on the original seed and then you put a passphrase on that seed, your coins will not be protected by the passphrase. To be protected by the passphrase, you have to put the passphrase on the seed first and then generate a wallet address from that seed with the passphrase, and send coins to that wallet address.

Also if you put a passphrase on your seed and you have deposited coins into the seed with a passphrase, never keep the passphrase and the seed together in the same place! It defeats the purpose of having a passphrase.

Is there a video to show how to set up hidden wallets that require a passphrase on a trezor that has some crypto stored on it already and doesn’t use a passphrase?

Heard that if someone has your Trezor physically it can be hacked. I haven’t heard about Ledger being hacked physically. I guess there is a trade off between the 2 wallets. A pass phrase on a Trezor can help safeguard your funds but you might have complications recovering your funds if you need to restore your wallet with your seed phrase on different hardware wallet.
