Imagine like this… you share two of the three shards with each of the three parties/custodians as follows:

party 1: shard one, shard two

party 2: shard two, shard three

party 3: shard one, shard three

now, if any 2 of the three parties meet up, they have enough data between them to reconstruct the secret from all three shards.

any one of the individual parties, alone, has insufficient information.

Hi – Ledger Recover is an optional subscription for users who want a backup of their secret recovery phrase. You don’t have to use it, and can continue managing your recovery phrase yourself if that’s why you bought a Ledger. Any firmware updates do not automatically enable this. This is your choice.

When you subscribe to Ledger Recover, a pre-BIP39 version of your private key is encrypted, duplicated and divided into three fragments, with each fragment secured by a separate company—Coincover, Ledger and EscrowTech. Each of these encrypted fragments is useless on its own. When you want to get access to your wallet, 2 of the 3 parties will send fragments back to your Ledger device, reassembling them to build your private key. More info here

you need any 2 pieces of the 3 to recreate the seed.

      google “Shamir Secret Sharing”.

I just want to add that, those parties can also work together to steal your funds and blame it to a missing malicious employee.

The encrypted means no shit when it can be decrypt with ANY ledger devices it means the decryption key is stored within the device and Ledger have control with.

That means someone can use AI to recreate your photo, selfie video, IDs, voices to social engineer these parties and steal your fund.

And the worst of all the HW wallet itself is close sourced from a lying company that can steal your seed anytime they wish to.

Ditch ledger is the best thing to do.
