If you’re introducing people to Bitcoin, education is essential to keep them and their investments safe. Even with a Bitcoin only mode the same risks apply to using and holding cryptocurrencies. At the end of the day it’s an unregulated asset class currently and essentially the Wild West. You need to know what you’re doing anyway and you will get rekt if you have very little knowledge about using crypto and the potential scams we see everyday. I don’t think a “light” mode would make much difference for helping people stay safe.
We don’t restrict what people do with traditional regulated currencies such as US Dollars, GB Pounds or set their credit or debit card to only be usable for its native currency to keep people safe and people still frequently get scammed using those.
Wherever there is financial gain there will always be scammers trying their hardest to part us from our money. Educating people about scams, what to look out for and how to stay safe is the best way whether you’re dealing in Crypto, Fiat currencies or Stocks.

Crypto is (among other reasons) about freedom from authorities dictating what you can do and what you cannot do with your money.
“Want access to sophisticate investments? You cannot, because you are dumb and only those registered are allowed to” and also “we do it to protect you because you could go broke since you don’t understand how it works”
And yet here you are, asking for a way to introduce someone to crypto while making sure that person does not go where you don’t want them to go.
Oh the irony…

Curious, why not just use the wallet that already does that? Also if they are your loved ones and you don’t want to educate / explain anything are they really your loved ones? Getting them into Bitcoin will eventually lead into every other coin possibly and so you’ll just what…tell them to go figure it out for themselves? 😂
I love Bitcoin as much as maybe the next person but not educating someone you’re gifting it to should they ask…is just odd.
Also pretty sure you need to keep ledger updated…so you’d have to anyway educate them on using the software…let alone how important keys etc.
Basically the short of the long is, sounds like you just want to stash BTC with some “loved ones” and have them clueless…

Just pre-install the Bitcoin app and nothing else if you want to do this with a Ledger. Trezor’s Bitcoin only option isn’t permanent either, so if someone wants other stuff they can just switch back to the universal firmware just as easily as someone can install extra apps with a Ledger.
If you want a device that is accessible for new users and Bitcoin only then your best bet is probably something like the Bitbox02 BTC-Only or the Keystone running BTC-Only firmware. (Neither of these allow you to swap back to multi-coin firmware, but are better for newbies than something like a Coldcard)
