They cannot be traced. But your exchange company will know that you’ve deposited monero. If government decides to take actions against Monero with partnering the exchange companies, you’ll be in their list.

Since you are mentioning about a P2P trade and being anonymous, no, you are safe. Depends on how you’ve P2P traded. Face to face? Nobody will know. Used an escrow website like Binance? They’ll know.

There’s always a way…. Because is not public knowledge doesn’t mean there’s no way. It all comes down to the resources and people the government is willing to put into it…. IF they really want to. Plenty of examples in the past “declassified government documents” showing about how they did this or that 40, 30 years ago which at the time was unthinkable, bordering on the imposible task. Yet it happened. May be we’ll find out 30 years from now that monero was not as untraceable as we thought it was, you get the point. Don’t underestimate the government. They hide and lie about a lot of things. But when they get to knock on your door is already too late.

      Hi,

Monero is not traceable, you need the private key of the transaction for that. Whether it comes from P2P or exchange, it’s the same rule.

Monero is not supported natively in Ledger Live, you need to use your device with [Monero with GUI wallet](https://web.getmonero.org/downloads/)

If you want to swap XMR for BTC, you will need to use [https://changelly.com/](https://changelly.com/)
