      a) If the thief **only** stole the device (**NOT** the seed phrase), the device will wipe itself and reset, after he/she enters the wrong pin 3 times.

      b) If you still have your seed phrase, you are fine. You can use it to restore access to your private keys on a brand-new hardware wallet.

      c) If the thief stole the seed phrase, your crypto is gone for good.

Besides the other helpful comments, let me stress that it is rather important to learn the basic working principle of hardware wallet and crypto in general, before you have invested any money on it.

      Restore from backup!

(you did record the seed, which ledger forces you to recite random parts back, right?)

Agree with above but as for c), it’s only gone if they have moved it already (you didn’t say if this theft was recently or months ago), if recent, I’d be setting up another wallet, testing my seed phrase out to see if it has been moved, if it hasn’t, I’d move it immediately and order another ledger.

hardware wallet is an access device. you should safeguard your seed and password-protect it. if access device is gone, use another access device and restore your seed. this is the proper way to do it.

When you setup the ledger, did you save the recovery phrase?

The device will reset itself after three times.

You can restore your crypto by entering your seed phrase on your new Ledger device?

You can learn more about it [here](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404382560913-Restore-your-Ledger-accounts-with-your-recovery-phrase?support=true)

The entire point of the wallet is that you can retrieve it without the physical wallet. Go buy a new ledger import your seed phrase and you crypto is there safe and sound.

This guy received so many backlash instead of a help he deleted his reddit account.

      Poor guy.
