I use electrum. When building the wallet it will hold 1 account according to the derivation path. The default is ending in /0 , if you have a BTC 2 account in ledger the derivation path ends in /1 , BTC 3 would end in /2 , etc. The options on electrum is to use the seed words you want or connect your hardware wallet directly which is the safe way to do it. If you can’t get the hardware device to connect you can enter seed words directly. I have built electrum accounts with hidden wallets connecting with Trezor One. After you set up the wallet you can keep it open as long as you want even if you unplug your hardware device, you just can’t transact without hooking it back up. When setting up the wallet if you do not check the box to encrypt wallet you can open the wallet with no hardware device or password and use as a watch only wallet, you can then hook up device if you want to send coins. You can see your list of addresses with balances: unused, used, and change addresses. Another option is to put the seed words into any wallet which uses BIP39 such as Ledger and use that device with electrum to access hidden wallets.
