Ledger hat gesagt, dass der Grund, warum Firmware-Updates erforderlich sind (und Saatgut exportiert werden kann), darin besteht, sich gegen Protokoll-Upgrades zu schützen.

Ich würde gerne alle ein oder zwei Jahre 100 Dollar ausgeben, um ein neues Modell mit aktualisierter Firmware zu bekommen, wenn ich wüsste, dass es sicher ist.

Customers prior to last week have changed as the marketing educated them on the trust asked of closed source firmware.

So for people who don’t feel comfortable putting 100% trust in a company why would they get a model that claims to not get firmware updates and the seed can’t be exported?

And for people who do trust Ledger why would they bother getting a new model that can’t be updated? Even they might assume firmware could make key exportation possible even if the claim for the new device is that it is impossible. So just go I trust ledger anyways to be honest with the firmware, so seems like a waste of money to get a new model that can’t be updated since all hardware wallets are capable of exporting keys anyways through firmware.

So going forward I think the assumption is going to be that all hardware wallets could have keys exported, and any hardware wallets claiming they can’t be and not offering firmware updates is just a waste of money.

If you sold a version that couldn’t update, you’d be stuck in a Time Capsule of what tokens it could manage at the time. Maybe this works for a select few, but if ethereum has a major update or you want some support for a newer blockchain you’d be in a pickle.
