Basierend auf der Untersuchung früherer Beschwerden über den Ledger und seine NDA für sichere Elemente interessiere ich mich für den aktuellen Status von Dingen wie Tropic Square und die Möglichkeiten der Ledger, ihre Designs auf ein offenes Firmware-Gerät zu migrieren, damit wir endlich eine 100% transparente Hardware-Lösung bekommen.

As you’ve referenced, there are contractual obligations which limit our ability to open-source certain elements of our system.

I’m not aware of any update to this front unfortunately, though fully open source would be optimal, I doubt there’s many who disagree with that on our end.

What Tropic Square is building isn’t a smartcard (which can run code), it seems like a (probably worse) version of the popular ATECC (which is basically an encrypted memory + cryptographic engine). So I wouldn’t say it’s interesting.

The most promising one was IMHO https://opentitan.org/ but I haven’t seen a lot of progress there. A lot of hardware projects have been slowed down by COVID + war so it probably didn’t help.
