not possible without the seed. That “someone” had access to the seed. Sorry.

Seems like a bot post, there was a similar post yesterday about someone’s dad having their assets drained, basically the same post.

      Load of garbage.

How did they got access to her Coinbase account? Did she have 2FA enabled?

Is she using a password manager (optionally with 2FA support) perhaps? If so, did she store her seed phrase there?

Basically, it can’t. But there are things your mom may not think of.

      1. Pre-configured Trezor – If her Trezor was pre-configured she may have started using it not knowing that this is bad.
      2. Poor initial setup – If she wasn’t familiar with the initial setup (many years ago) she may have entered the seed into fake software then. Attackers will usually wait for money to fill the account before draining
      3. Put the seed-mnemonic in a password manager – most think this is “secure enough” but its not
      4. Loaded an existing seed – If she loaded a seed from Ledger or Metamask in her Trezor that is the same as “storing seed online”

I know you are certain none of this happened. And short of the above 4 only other way would be someone getting the seed from the safety deposit box, or she approved a bad BTC TXN not realizing how to check it.

Connect the Coinbase breach to the Trezor breach and you’ll have your answer.

That they happened on the same day was no accident.

This could be someone you know or she knows.

Does your mom know everything about crypto and cybersecurity? Most likely not, sorry for the loss.

Looks like someone had access to the seeds and to the Coinbase account.
Your mom must have leaked these information somehow. Maybe a fishing attack?

Did she happen to save all her login details in a single location? If so it seems she left her coinbase login info and her seed phrase somewhere someone found it.

Why do you think coinbase and trezor were accessed on the same day? My guess is the login info is stored at the same location.
Did she have a visitor on Jan 4?

Someone must have gotten her seed, or had access to the Trezor. There is no other way.

Time to get a passphrase, so your seed getting compromised will not be your single point of failure.

Where did she store her seed phrase? I know you said never online, but that doesn’t eliminate all possibilities of theft. If it was on paper, where is the paper? Over all of the time since wallet creation and the theft, how many people could have theoretically had access to that paper? Cleaners, house sitters, friends/family etc etc
