Verbindung Leger + Metamask: Fragen zu den Keimformeln

Hallo,

Ich habe vor einiger Zeit mein Ledger (S+) mit einer eigenen Seed-Phrase gestartet (alles funktioniert einwandfrei).

Ich musste eine Metamask Wallet/Konto erstellen, bevor ich Zugriff auf das Dropdown-Menü und die Option “Hardware verbinden” Wallet: Jetzt habe ich auch eine zweite Seed-Phrase und die leere Standard-Metamaske “Account1”.

Nachdem ich meinen Ledger mit der Metamask verbunden habe, erhalte ich ein weiteres Konto mit dem Namen “Ledger1” (mit dem kleinen “Ledger”-Stempel daneben), und ich kann mein Vermögen hier sehen.

Alles scheint in Ordnung zu sein, aber mich verwirrt die Tatsache, dass ich jetzt 2 Seed-Phrasen habe.

Ist die Metamask-Seedphrase nur für die Wiederherstellung von “Account1” nützlich? Wenn ich “Konto1” nicht benötige, kann ich es dann wegwerfen/verlieren/unbedenklich veröffentlichen? Warum haben wir nicht die Möglichkeit, Metamask direkt mit Ledger zu initiieren?

You can throw away the seed that Metamask generated. Unfortunately it’s just a design decision by Metamask that they force you to create a software seed phrase before letting you also connect a hardware wallet.

(But actually I’d also save the Metamask seed somewhere just in case you accidently send some assets to that account, so you’d have a way to recover those. But in normal use, you should only be sending to the Ledger-linked addresses)

As u/VariousJackfruit mentioned, the MetaMask seed phrase is only related to the MetaMask hot wallet’s account. You have to create one of these hot wallet accounts in MetaMask, before you’re able to connect your Ledger and create a hardware-connected account.

Regarding the account that says “Ledger1” with the small “Ledger” stamp next to it – this is the account being secured by your Ledger device. This means that any transactions made with this account will require you to manually confirm the transaction with your physical Ledger device, using your hands!

With respect to the “seed phrase” that MetaMask had you generate, you can choose to use this or simply rely on using your Ledger-connected account. I personally keep a copy of my MetaMask seed phrase purely out of personal preference (similar to what VariousJackfruit was saying), however **the most important aspect of this equation is making sure that your Ledger device’s 24 word recovery phrase is safely stored, secured, and never shared with anyone or stored on any form of digital medium** (the camera roll of a phone, the notes application of a device, data-cloud storage, etc.).
