When you say really small chances you make it seem like you have the same odds of winning the lottery. It’s been explained to me like this. Our human brains have an extremely hard time understanding these things and the math behind it.

Imagine our earth and every grain of sand on it. The sand in oceans, deserts, beaches, lakes, rivers and the ground itself. Now imagine all those grains of sand are thier own planets the same size of earth with sand on them as well. The chances of you guessing someones seed phrase can be equated to you finding a single grain of sand on one of these planets.

There is also no central database that records which seed phrases have been created and which haven’t been that would defeat the entire purpose of cold storage and protecting your crypto.

Apparently the chance of acquiring someones seed via the random number generator is less than the number of all atoms in the universe. f knows how they came up with that, but it’s virtually impossible at that point.

If you are super paranoid like that, use separate 24seed addresses for each of your cryptos, otherwise I dunno what else to say.

Basically there are 2048^24 possible seeds and (2048^24)/256 valid 24 word seeds…. (The numbers at this point are so large that the difference between valid and invalid doesn’t really matter) Your wallet doesn’t check whether a seed is already used, as the possibility of getting the same seed twice is so remote that it isn’t rational to get worried about the possibility of it happening. (But humans are bad with big numbers, so it can be easy to take a while to get comfortable with it)

I talk about the numbers involved in this video here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3_t6wO2f5M](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3_t6wO2f5M) (That video is about private keys, but the principle is the same and the numbers are in the same orders of magnitude)

Adding a passphrase doesn’t really add any security and also increases the risk of you messing up your backups, but IS useful to add a layer of security to your physical backups.

It would take 507 Billion years (37 times the age of the universe) to guess your seed phrase. That is pretty secure. Don’t worry.

if you paranoid then create a passphrase on top of ur seed phrase so you will have 24 seed phrase + a custom pass of your choice making it even less likely if not impossible for someone to guess ur phrase

Hey head over to keys.lol it generates pages of random wallets who knows you might get lucky. But I’m guessing you’ll get bored first

[https://i.redd.it/1jph4lzxezj01.jpg](https://i.redd.it/1jph4lzxezj01.jpg) is an excellent description of the size of numbers involved, from [https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/827pzw/odds_of_winning_powerball_lottery_vs_guessing_one/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/827pzw/odds_of_winning_powerball_lottery_vs_guessing_one/) .

Which is to say, accidentally guessing _any_ wallet is cosmically less likely then winning powerball, and again as unlikely to guessing _your_ wallet.

So, for 1: The number of wallets generated, or that could be generated in human timescales, is essentially compared to the total number possilbe.

For 2: A wallet generator doesn’t have to know if someone generated the wallet already. Random chance says it doesn’t need to bother. It _could_ check if there are any transactions with that wallet yet to avoid that miniscule change, but that does not require a centrally hackable database.
